1. Two kinds of users, and why that matters
EveryLingo is built around two distinct roles, and this distinction shapes everything else in this policy:
- Account holders (parents/caregivers, adults) — the person who creates the account, manages settings, makes any purchase, and chooses whether to record custom words, voices, or photos for their child to use in the app.
- Child players — children who use the app's games, under a parent or caregiver's account. Children do not create their own separate account, do not log in independently, and do not provide any information to us directly. Everything a child does in the app happens inside an account an adult created and controls.
Voice recordings of a child's own voice are never required — EveryLingo works fully with preloaded content and a caregiver's own voice. If a caregiver chooses to let a child record their own voice for a word, that is entirely optional and at the caregiver's discretion, and it happens through the same adult-controlled account, under the same protections described below.
2. Information we collect
From the account holder (adult)
- Email address and name, when you create an account (via Google sign-in or email).
- Payment information: we do not receive or store your card details. Payments are processed directly by Stripe; we retain only your transaction and subscription status.
- Country/location, determined automatically, used to apply correct regional pricing.
Content created within the account (which may include a child's voice or image, at the account holder's discretion)
- Voice recordings, if the account holder records — or allows a child to record, under their supervision — a custom pronunciation for a word.
- Photos, if the account holder uploads or takes a picture to illustrate a word.
- Text, such as custom words, translations, or labels entered by the account holder.
None of this content is required to use EveryLingo — the app is fully usable with preloaded vocabulary and audio alone.
Automatically collected
- A session identifier, used to keep track of progress and saved content, including for people using the app without an account.
- Basic, aggregate usage analytics, via Google Analytics, to help us understand overall app usage and improve it. This does not include the content of any recordings, photos, or custom words.
- At specific moments only — when an account holder reaches the upgrade screen, completes a purchase, or finishes creating an account — a small amount of information is shared with our marketing measurement partners (see Section 4) so we can measure whether our own advertising, run outside the app, is working. This never happens during a child's gameplay.
3. How we use this information, and who can see it
We use the information above only to:
- Operate the app's core features — playing games, saving and playing back custom words, tracking progress.
- Process payments and manage the account.
- Convert recorded voice and photos into playable game content, using the third-party services listed below.
- Understand overall, aggregate usage patterns so we can improve EveryLingo.
- Apply correct regional pricing.
- Measure the performance of our own marketing campaigns, run outside the app (e.g. on Instagram, Facebook, or Google Search), limited strictly to the moments described in Section 2 — never during gameplay, and never involving a child's recordings, photos, or custom words.
Content created within an account — recordings, photos, and custom words — is private to that account. It is used solely to serve games back to that same account, and for no other purpose. We do not use this content for advertising, marketing, AI training, or any purpose beyond making it playable within the account that created it. It is not shared with, or made visible to, any other user or account.
Administrative access: A small number of EveryLingo administrators can technically access account data — this is necessary to provide customer support (for example, investigating a reported problem) and to maintain the platform. Administrative access is restricted to these purposes; it is not used to view, use, repurpose, or share account content for any other reason.
We do not sell personal information, and we never use a child's voice or image for advertising or promotional purposes. EveryLingo does not display any third-party advertisements inside the app, to any user, child or adult, ever. Meta, TikTok, and Google Ads are used solely to measure the performance of EveryLingo's own marketing campaigns run outside the app — never to serve ads within it.
4. Third parties we work with
To provide EveryLingo's features, certain data is processed by these providers, each solely to perform their specific function for us:
| Provider | What they do | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Stripe | Payment processing | Payment details directly; we never receive full card numbers |
| Microsoft Azure / Google Cloud | Text-to-speech and speech-to-text, so words and recordings can be played back | Voice recordings and text, as needed to generate audio |
| AI image generation service (via our development platform) | Generates a custom illustration if you choose to create one instead of uploading your own photo | The word/prompt you provide |
| Google Analytics | Aggregate, non-identifying usage statistics | Anonymized usage data only |
| Meta (Facebook), TikTok, Google Ads | Measuring the performance of our own marketing campaigns run outside the app. EveryLingo does not display any third-party advertisements inside the app, to any user. | A limited advertising/device identifier and basic event information (e.g. that someone reached the upgrade screen, completed a purchase, or created an account), only at those three specific moments. This never fires during a child's gameplay, and never includes any content a child or account holder has created (recordings, photos, custom words). |
| Base44 | Our application development and hosting platform — underlying database and file storage | All account and content data, as our infrastructure provider |
None of these providers are permitted to use this data for their own purposes beyond providing their service to us.
5. Children's privacy
EveryLingo is structured to keep control in the hands of a parent or guardian:
- A child never creates their own account, provides their own email, or logs in independently. Every child's use of EveryLingo happens entirely inside an account that an adult created and controls.
- Before any custom voice recording or photo can be created for the first time on an account, the account holder must actively confirm they are a parent or guardian aged 18 or older. This confirmation is required once per account before any such content can be created, and is stored against the account.
- Purchasing EveryLingo requires a payment transaction, which itself serves as a form of verification that an adult, not a child, is responsible for the account — this is one of the methods recognised by U.S. regulators as a valid way to help verify parental involvement.
- Recording a child's own voice is always optional, always initiated by the account holder, and never required to use the app.
Your rights as a parent or guardian, under the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and equivalent protections elsewhere:
- You can review the personal information associated with your account and any content created within it.
- You can request that any custom voice recordings, photos, or other content be deleted.
- You can refuse to allow any further collection of your child's information and delete your account entirely, at any time.
- You can do all of the above at app.everylingo.app/delete-account, from within the app itself, or by emailing [email protected].
We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children, and we do not knowingly allow children to create their own independent accounts.
6. Data retention and deletion
Account holders can delete their account and all associated data at any time, directly within the app or at app.everylingo.app/delete-account. When you do:
- You must be logged in as the account being deleted — this prevents anyone else from requesting deletion of an account that isn't theirs.
- You'll be asked to confirm, since deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
- On confirmation, we automatically delete your custom words, photos, voice recordings, progress, achievements, and all other account-linked data across our systems.
- Your login session is revoked immediately.
Deleting individual words
You can also delete individual saved words — including their image, audio recording, and text — without deleting your account or any other content. This is available at any time at app.everylingo.app/#/my-words while logged in. Deleting a word this way removes only that word; your account, progress, achievements, and other saved words are unaffected. There is no additional retention period — deleted words are removed immediately.
If you do not request deletion, your account and its data are retained for as long as the account remains active.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain uses of it. To exercise any of these rights, contact [email protected].
Australia: EveryLingo is based in Australia and handles personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). You have the right to access personal information we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate information, and lodge a complaint about how we've handled your information. If you're not satisfied with our response to a complaint, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
If you are in the European Economic Area, UK, or Switzerland, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. EveryLingo processes personal data on the basis of your consent (for optional content you create) and our legitimate interest in operating and improving the app, and contractual necessity for account and payment functions. Because EveryLingo is based in Australia, transfers of your data outside the EEA are made using the service providers listed in Section 4, each of which maintains its own safeguards for international data transfers.
If you are in the United States, you may have additional rights depending on your state of residence, in addition to the COPPA-specific rights described in Section 5.
8. Security
We restrict access to account data so that content is only accessible within the account that created it, and we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information in our systems. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of information transmitted to us.
9. App store & platform disclosures
This section summarises how EveryLingo's data practices map to app store requirements, for reviewers and for users comparing platforms.
- Account deletion: available in-app and via a public web link (app.everylingo.app/delete-account), independent of app store or device.
- Granular data deletion: individual saved words can be deleted without deleting the account, at app.everylingo.app/#/my-words.
- No sale of personal data: EveryLingo does not sell personal information to third parties, and does not use a child's content for advertising.
- No in-app advertising: EveryLingo does not display any third-party advertisements to any user, child or adult, anywhere in the app. Meta, TikTok, and Google Ads are used solely to measure the performance of EveryLingo's own marketing campaigns run outside the app.
- Advertising measurement: limited to adult-confirmed conversion moments (Section 2); no advertising SDK receives data during a child's gameplay, and no personalised or behavioural advertising is ever shown to children.
- Children's category: EveryLingo is designed for children ages 0–6 used under adult supervision; children do not hold independent accounts or provide data directly, consistent with COPPA and Google Play Families Policy requirements.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify account holders directly.
