What is EveryLingo? 📚🌍
EveryLingo is a vocabulary-building app based on user-generated content. EveryLingo is a one-of-a-kind vocabulary-building adventure for families of all backgrounds. Whether you’re raising a multilingual explorer or a little word whiz mastering one language, EveryLingo makes learning vocabulary fun and engaging.
Designed with multilingual families in mind—including Indigenous, migrant, and refugee communities—EveryLingo helps children learn vocabulary in multiple languages through a playful and interactive experience. Imagine teaching your kids words that matter, spoken in your own voice!
But EveryLingo isn’t just for multilingual families. Monolingual families can also enjoy a rich and dynamic way to build vocabulary in their first language, making it ideal for young children beginning their language journey or for families looking to support strong language skills from the start.
EveryLingo: where words come to life, one family at a time.
How Does EveryLingo Work? 🎮🗣️
Customisable Content:
Users, such as parents, caregivers, and educators, can create vocabulary cards tailored to their unique family contexts, cultural backgrounds, and linguistic environments. This includes incorporating native languages, accents, dialects, and cultural nuances. Users can upload vocabulary in multiple languages, including voices and spellings, which are then used to create interactive games and vocabulary cards.
Concept Behind EveryLingo:
The idea is to expose a child to the same image while hearing different language sounds and seeing different written forms. This helps children associate the same visual image with multiple languages, enhancing their multilingual development. Children benefit from seeing written forms of language, which helps them understand the relationship between letters and sounds. Research supports that children learn languages effectively by being exposed to both sounds and images. This method helps them make connections between spoken and written forms, enhancing their understanding and retention of vocabulary.
In addition to the four games currently available in the app, EveryLingo aims to convert several traditional games and develop new children's games into multilingual learning tools. Our future development plans include expanding our range of vocabulary games to make every child's learning experience more engaging and multilingual.
Shared Content:
The final version of EveryLingo will have a feature that allows users to share the content they create and use content created by others. Users will have full control over what they want to share, such as general terms like 'ball,' 'cat,' and 'sky,' while keeping personal or sensitive cards private. By sharing content, users can access a module to select the language they want and use vocabulary cards created by other native speakers. This not only saves time but also helps preserve language heritage, making it accessible to everyone around the world. Shared cards will receive feedback from other users and professionals to ensure quality and accuracy. This feature is not available in the current version, but we will ask for your feedback.
How to Start testing:
Interacting with Vocabulary Cards:
Everything your child sees around them can be turned into a vocabulary card. There is no limit to what you can use to create the card. You can do this by:
The key is to add pronunciation and spelling to these cards in the language you want your child to hear and learn. This way, you can create personalised and relevant learning materials that reflect your child's environment and family context, moving beyond typical vocabulary resources focused on colours, shapes, and generic items.
When recording words and spellings, feel free to customise them as you see fit. For example:
Blank Cards:
Recording Voice:
Start recording as soon as you press record and save as soon as you stop talking. Include children who already know some vocabulary to record the voices.
After you create the cards, let your child play the games.
